Langley, BC – Team Canada is sending 313 athletes to the upcoming Olympic in Rio. Of the 313 athletes on Team Canada, 142 have a connection to British Columbia, with 68 listing a hometown in the province and another 74 benefiting from services provided by Canadian Sport Institute Pacific or a PacificSport Centre in BC. Among these BC athletes, 9 registered with PacificSport Fraser Valley will be competing. One of PacificSport Fraser Valley’s athletes is Team Canada’s youngest member, Shallon Olsen, who just turned 16 in July and will be competing in Artistic Gymnastics. She says, “the games are a once in a lifetime experience and I want to enjoy it and soak it all in the best I can. Being the youngest on the team is somewhat an advantage for me in my opinion because you have younger bones, younger everything making it easier for you to flip around.” The other athletes from the Fraser Valley representing Canada at Rio are:

  • Adam Froese – Men’s Field Hockey
  • Daniel Jansen VanDoorn – Men’s Volleyball
  • Devohn Texeira – Men’s Field Hockey
  • Jagdish Gill – Men’s Field Hockey
  • Kim Gaucher – Women’s Basketball
  • Lisa Roman – Women’s Rowing Eight
  • Mike Mason – Men’s Athletics High Jump
  • Sukpahl Pensar – Men’s Field Hockey
