Overview

PacificSport Fraser Valley works with local sport organizations (LSOs), coaches, and grassroots sport programs to build capacity and foster quality sport development and positive experiences in sport. Within this area, we are active contributors on sport councils in the City of Abbotsford, the District of Mission, and the City of Maple Ridge. These councils bring together champions in sport within the community and work towards ensuring accessibility to sport for all residents, and strengthening sport organizations in the region. PacificSport hopes to implement sport councils in other communities within the Fraser Valley as well.

Working with coaches, PacificSport Fraser Valley provides support through training, resources, and professional development experiences. We provide workshops and training for coaches, such as NCCP courses and professional development speaker series events. Our grassroots-level XploreSportZ camps also present an opportunity to gain coaching experience by developing lesson plans and running introductory sport sessions. The camps also give coaches a chance to try out new activities with the kids and create modifications for them to improve on their own skills for the future.

Opportunities for local sport organizations include coaching opportunities at our camps and after-school programs, promotional opportunities such as free use of our job posting board or promotion of programs and events on our website and social media. Sport organizations are encouraged to have their coaches participate in our camps as a promotional opportunity for their sport. As many kids in the camp will be trying the sport for the first time, this provides a window to engage more kids in the sport and find out ways to participate in it outside of the camp. We also work with local sport organizations to provide consultation to support the implementation of best practices in sport. This can include safe sport (abuse-free sport), inclusivity, and accessibility.
